Abstract: This Dataset includes data from an experimental research project led by Dr. A. Mateos and approved by the Hospital Universitario de Burgos Ethical Committee (Burgos, Spain) (BioE5-CEIC 1586). The aim of the project was to quantify the energetic cost of a simulated extractive foraging activity (digging out wooden stakes which simulated underground food resources) in a sample of 40 urban children and adolescents of both sexes, aged 8-14 years. The entire data set acquired was incorporated into the EVOBREATH database (Mateos et al., 2016) and several data were analysed in Mateos, Zorrilla-Revilla and Rodríguez (2022, Let’s Play to Dig: A Vigorous Energetic Task for a Young Forager? Human Nature).
