| Resumen: | The Gona Paleoanthropological Research Project study area, in the Afar region of Ethiopia, is among the most important in East Africa for investigating the biological and behavioral evolution of ancestral hominins over the past six million years. Well known for yielding the earliest Oldowan stone artifacts dated to 2.6 million years ago, Gona is located just southwest of Hadar, famous for the discovery of the 3.2‐million‐year‐old “Lucy” skeleton. Extensive and systematic field and laboratory research since 1999 at Gona has resulted in the discovery of numerous hominins and archaeological sites from several important time intervals in human evolution. |
