Paleoambientes y clima durante el Pleistoceno Superior-Holoceno temprano en el norte de Etiopía

Abstract

The stratigraphic record of fluvial and infilled valley deposits in the area of Adwa (Northern Ethiopia) allowed the description and identification of three main episodes of soil formation, related to wetter climatic conditions in the area, which constitute the oldest soil formation episodes, during the Late Pleistocene described in Ethiopia. The oldest soil formation episode ca 50 Ka yr BP correlated in time with a high lakes phase in the Ethiopian rift area (Abhé II) and in other large lakes in East Africa. The three soil formation episodes were interrupted by arid phases, which are registered in the alluvial stratigraphic profiles by thick coluvial deposits.
